I Believe in What You’re Doing

Dr. Jack Kevorkian (regarding his assisted suicides)

What is so wrong with these things that he’s doing?
Who is he hurting by helping them die?
What’s all this trouble they say he is brewing?
Is he a villain or hero type guy?

Who wants to suffer and linger their last days.
Lose all their saving to medical theft.
Hooked to machines looking back on their past days.
Wanting to die with some dignity left.

Tired of pain, so extreme and unbearing.
Happy with life, ‘til they got ‘round the bend.
Most of sound mind with a plan they’re preparing.
One goal in life only. Make this pain end.

I say he’s a hero, despite persecution.
He does what his heart and his mind say is right.
Convicted one time he could face execution.
Yet he continues. Humane is his fight.

When pets get too old and have used up their years.
We put them to sleep, cause it’s only humane.
Yet people get old; get diseased, filled with fears.
Are expected to live with continuing pain.

The Doctors don’t care for the person that’s dying.
It’s more their insurance and savings they’re after.
They want just to die—Dr Jack’s just complying.
Knowing their lives will no longer know laughter.

I repsect what your doing Doc. I fully support you.
You’re bolder and better that those that contest you.
This poem is my feelings—I want to award you.
I believe in my heart that God loves and has blessed you.
