I Finally Am Able to Fly
Regarding a Powered Parachute Plane that I owned a short time
I’ll never forget, since a very young boy.
The thought of me flying. It brought me much joy.
Since I first had seen Superman soar through the air.
I dreamt of the day I would somehow compare.
In my dreams I would see me out running and bounding.
The thought of me flying would get my heart pounding.
Flying, so freely, across friendly skies.
Seeing the world through our mighty God’s eyes.
I lived with this dream with intent to fulfill.
I figured, no way, could I master this skill.
Despite how I longed for it, still I had fear,
of all of the dangers, which all were to clear.
Still my desire had stood above all.
The time had now come; I respond to this call.
My soul has been craving, before I should die,
I had to, just one time, get up there and fly.
I’ve flown in big jets. Truly awesome indeed.
Small planes, just a couple! Still, not what I need.
Some ultra light planes. I was close to my quest.
This urge that I had was in need of a rest.
So I purchased a craft I can fly on my own.
I’m up in the sky now with God, all alone.
It’s better and funner than I’d ever dreamed.
The dream of my lifetime, I’ve finally redeemed.
My craft is a small one. Two people she’ll carry.
It hasn’t a wing, which at first might sound scary.
It has a large parachute! That’s its support.
And I am in love with this excellent sport.
I can fly off the ground maybe two or three feet,
or really up high where the sky and clouds meet.
As I float through the air I’m united with God.
as I fly over ground where I only once trod.
No stop lights or stop signs, nor limits on speed.
No pedestrians, wildlife, or traffic to heed.
No dealing with drivers obnoxious and rude.
But living the dream I have finally pursued.
Seeing the world as it rarely is seen.
The trees and the grass never looking so green.
I can hardly recall when the sky’s looked so blue.
Mere words can’t describe the incredible view.
Tranquil! Exciting! Thrilling! A blast!
Forty-two years. I am flying at last.
And my thrill has only just newly begun.
The story gets better before it is done.
