To a Friend, From a Friend
To Bill Colby prior to his getting married (a friend since 3rd grade)
Known you for so long. Since I was just a little kid.
Hard to comprehend all of the crazy things we did.
From being good to not so good. To even being bad.
Bill Colby, you’re the best friend that this author’s ever had.
We always were competitive. I think that, that is why.
The both of us are talented, most everything we try.
You always kept me on my toes. Perfecting! Seeking! Thriving!
To maintain as well as you, for years, I have been thriving.
I’d like to think you learned from me. From both of my resources.
From all of my rewards and then, of course, of my remorses.
I love you like a brother. You were there when problems rose.
Told you things, that normally, I never could disclose.
Experienced the things in life. So sad to reminisce.
We went thru all the changes. You did that and I did this.
We laughed a lot. We cried I’m sure. It made us tough as leather.
What helped, it seemed to me, is that we did it all together.
Both had our opinions, but I’m sure we both reflected.
Better ways of thinking, we might normally had neglected.
Seeing things thru different eyes. Eventually agreeing.
Creating new perspectives and a different way of seeing.
Heard each others problems. Always open for advice.
I think we lost our tempers once. Or maybe even twice.
We made each other wiser! Better! Sharper all around!
Of all the friends I’ve made, you are the best that I have found.
Be happy in your marriage, making sure each other bends.
Kandy had my job now. Treat her well! Be best of friends!
What’s, truly, most important. What I hope for both of you.
Is happiness, throughout your life, in everything you do.
