Kind Words for a Kind Man
Jim Stevenson (met him in treatment)
A gentle man! So very kind, and friendly was his way.
Precise in every detail, of the things he chose to say.
Intelligent, and down to earth, describes him, prob’ly, best.
This man, our friend, Jim Stephenson, whom we have laid to rest.
He had a sense of humor when his life was at its bleakest.
He had a strength about him, even at his very weakest.
He always thought of others! Always showed, sincere, concern.
If he didn’t know a subject, he was very quick to learn.
He had a charm about him, that he made you feel at ease.
A consciousness about him, that he always aimed to please.
A friendliness about him that you had to be attracted.
A silliness about him in the ways he often acted.
I wish I’d known him better! That’s my one regret today.
I’m sad he had to get so sick. I’m sad he went away.
His spirit is in Heaven now. God has him in his hand.
Up there with John and Jimmy. Knowing Jim, he formed a band.
And, although we miss him dearly, since he’s passed thru Heaven’s doors,
We rejoice in his new body, and the place in which it soars.
His anguish and his suffering have fin’ly chose to cease.
He reached his heart’s desire. Jim is living, now, in peace.
Each time you see the finger sign. The one shaped like a V.
Each time you give it back to someone, here’s what you may see.
The man behind those fingers and its message, meant, to him.
Each time that sign is flashed, let it commemorate our Jim.
God, you have Jim, in Heaven, now. You’ve made him right as rain.
I thought that I should warn you now, that Jim can be a pain.
You’ve got a good man, Father, as I’m sure that you can tell.
I know how much he loved you. He will serve you very well.
We say good-bye, Jim Stephenson. We’ll miss you, my good friend!
And though, from how it looks down here, your life has met its end.
The spirit that you showed down here, has truly been set free.
Thank you for the friend you were! Revealing it to me!
Thanks for all your kindness in this world of much unkind.
Friends like you are rare, dear Jim, and likewise hard to find.
Send us all a message, if there’s any way you can.
Good-bye, my friend, I say for now, until we meet again.
