That’s the Kind of Guy You Were
Dean Godding (fellow Karate student & Judo Instructor)
I went to check my pictures, if by chance I had a one.
Reminding me of days gone by, with Sparky, having fun.
Almost as God had put it there. The only one I’d found.
The first one sitting, right on top. The only one around.
It’s still a special picture, even though your partly hid.
It makes me think of who you were. The special things you did.
With all the people; all the fun. A night so darn exciting.
You took the time recording our Karate reuniting.
You’ve always been a special guy. That’s one thing that’s for sure.
I don’t recall a selfish act. That’s just the guy you were.
I’m going to miss your company. You opened up my eyes.
How truly good a friend you were, I just now realize.
I hope you’re resting peaceful, friend. Enjoy eternal rest.
I know where you are bound in spirit. I know that you were blessed.
I know we’ll meet again someday, where life is not so tough.
Still to say good-bye tonight. Well Sparky it is rough.
I wasn’t quite prepared for this. I guess we never are.
I feel a little guilty, yet a pleasant kind of scar.
A sense of new direction, you have helped me quickly turn.
It took, to lose a friend like you, a lesson I could learn.
To realize that life is precious; wonderful, enchanted.
Something that too many of us take too much for granted.
Your spirit lives a bit in me. A bit in many others.
Rick and John. Joe and Bob. You treated us like brothers.
Tonight we say good-bye to you. We’ll prob’ly shed some tears.
We’ll think of you while looking back throughout those special years.
We all will come to realize, with all our reminiscing.
That that’s the kind of guy you were. The kind of guy we’re missing.
