The Thing Larry Wanted the Most
Larry Fulton (fellow choir member at Church of Christ)
As brothers in Christ, I’d become Larry’s friend.
His time here on earth has now come to an end.
He’s going to the home he’d awaited so long.
To meet with the Savior he’d loved deep and strong.
I’d spoken with Larry—he’d lived with regret.
Things he’d of liked to, but couldn’t forget.
His biggest regret that I heard him remark,
was all of those years that he’d lived in the dark.
The wounds that were opened yet never quite healed.
The wounds he discovered as his Lord was revealed.
His children, no doubt, were his deepest concern.
His prayers, they know Jesus, before his return.
A hope and a dream that he took to the grave.
That Christ, through his death, who had come here to save,
would save all his children and that they would let him.
The thought of them, not saved, would always upset him.
So Larry’s last wish is the theme of this poem.
That one day again they will share the same home.
That, thru this man Christ, they shall always be bound.
That they too find the love that their father had found.
That they might take an interest in reading God’s Word.
That their thoughts of Salvation, thru Jesus, be stirred.
The life changing power which Larry confessed,
be brought forth in his children—his final request!
