What is It Like in Heaven

Paul Dach - My Best friend in High School who joined the Navy with me in 1974. Died suddenly of a heart attack at the young age of 42

Paul, I know you’re here today.
I know you hear these words I say.
Knowing that, it gives me hope.
It gives me strength. It helps me cope.

Although I’m sad, I celebrate.
You’re now with God. I have to wait.
A brand new realm, you’ve gone to be,
where God has set your spirit free.

Is Heaven all they say it is?
Did God acknowledge you as his?
Does food taste good, or don’t you eat?
Have you a home? If so, what street?

How beautiful is it up there?
With what, down here, can we compare?
Did Jesus greet you at the door?
Have you had time to go explore?

And how is Fred (if you have found him)?
You had much time to spend around him?
Did you get the chance to see the sights?
Do they have warm days, how bout cool nights?

Do you wear clothes, like pants and shoes?
Do they have gossip or daily news?
Can you fly around and check out things?
Do you have to wait to get your wings?

Is Jesus the friend that he did claim?
Did he know your face? Did he call your name?
Is his love as deep as we’re taught in church?
Did he come to you? Did you have to search?

Can you speak to us while we’re asleep?
Was there anything here that you wanted to keep?
Can you read our minds and know our cares?
Do you share our tears? Do you hear our prayers?

Enough dumb questions. Paul, “good-bye”.
I’ll wait to hear, for your reply.
Until that day we meet again.
Thanks so much for being my friend.
